I've never played any of the games in this series and I must say am really enjoying it at the moment. I have hot to a point though (maybe same ad Axe?) on normal where round after round of enemies keep attacking (the floor changes into death alley) and no health. Its beginning to feel like groundhog day the amount of times I've failed. But enjoying it heaps and restarted on easy (noob) mode. Don't judge me its my first crack at GOW.

Yeah GoW can be brutal and challenging on the harder settings. It'll beat you to the ground and just when you think it's over and you're about dead, something bigger and badder turns up and not just one. haha love it! You really need to play the trilogy. GoW 2 is the best!!

Yeah, Trials of Archimedes are brutal - most of Ascension on normal is easier than your average God of War, but the Trials are pretty tough even post-patch (and ridiculous pre-patch, bit of a choke by Sony Santa Monica, who are usually better than this).  Keep at it - I played my first GoW on easy, and then the rest on normal once I'd got my eye in :D.  Good luck Doomy :D.

Finished this and played a bit more of the MP - it's an all-round quality game, and the MP is surprisingly good.  SP is what you'd expect - same style with a few minor iterations (not a bad thing, they've only released four of these on console in the last eight years, so they're not doing a CoD or Assassin's Creed with it) and the MP is unlike anything I've played, a lot of fun and works well.  Suspect the game won't get quite the attention it deserves, but they've really put together a decent MP game here (kinda like ME3 and its coop not getting the attention it deserves either).

Just finished the SP on easy, it's ridiculous the difference between easy and normal.  I think I died twice in easy and both times was an epic fail falling off the map. Normal on the other hand was ok until the beginning of the end and then bam ramped up difficulty.  If the difference between the first 2 difficulties was that vast I'm too scared to try the next one. P.S Outlaw I thought you would have played this by now, being that you are such a fan?! You recommended it to me!  BTW anyone want to give multiplayer a go and want some company let me know, I'm crap at the game but have been told am good company (I have warm hands!) ;)

Nice one Doomy B), a couple of us from SPT are getting together on Tuesday nights, from around 7:30 Aus eastern, to give this a go, you're very welcome to join us :D.  Happy to organise something more formal if there's interest, although there's no private lobbies and max party sizes of four, so it's a bit limited from a community perspective .

Yeah i know I'd love to play it but I can't afford it, and have been busy lately so don't really have the time to sit down and play and since its god of war, i'll probably get addicted and end up playing all day and night lol can't get any work done that way :P

Them be good questions - if you wait to the weekend, I'm hoping to knock up a full review.  Short answer is that it's an easy recommend to GoW fans, and a quality game (and the MP is solid as well, and different), but if you're a bit either way about the series and have already played a few, you may find it's a bit much of the same thing.  Odds are I'll give it around 8.5/10 (that's a gut feel - will think in more detail when I'm doing the review) - it's a very good game for what it is (although it takes a while for the SP to get moving - actions good throughout, but it wasn't until the second half that the story comes together).

I played it a bit on the long weekend, up to chapter 12 or so.   I dont own any previous GoW titles, but did play through a mates GoW 3 last year.

I recon its not too bad, from a non-fanboy viewpoint.   Its a button masher, with some frustrating sequences and puzzles but very entertaining, and some cool death blow animations.

Spoiler

Haven't sussed the MP yet but it appears to be offering PvP modes (team versus, CTF, etc), some Co-op, and even a solo mode.   I did setup a MP character, and looks to have some depth to the MP character leveling and lots of class options with 4 primary characters, so not just a tack on.

Happy to join up with some GGers in the MP for some mashing action.

$39 at JBhifi right now, tempting, really tempting but if I bought it would put to rest any chance of getting FUSE near release.
